DESCRIPTION :
The genderless nature of the jellyfish and how it fails to fall under human expectations of visible gender represents the non-conformity of non-binary individuals to societal expectations of gender expression and behavior. Additionally, the jellyfishes’ solitary and meandering nature represents the feelings of isolation and ostracization experienced by those that do not conform to the gender binary. The visual of a fish tank symbolizes the societal restrictions put on those that are non-binary, and the idea of the jellyfish being put on view as a display/exhibit symbolizes how modern society fetishises and exploits non-binary issues without showing true understanding or empathy for those that are actually non-binary.
