DESCRIPTION :
My plot to cover the place with tenderness, a line from a CAConrad poem, is an ongoing art/life performance investigating the transformative and confrontational potential of private rituals of care. Over the course of 2 months, the artist is conducting intimate acts caring for her chronic pain in public spaces across Santa Clarita. The rituals include: creating assemblages out of therapeutic devices, improvised movement, and playful interactions with the public. Informed by ongoing studies in clowning, ashtanga and pranayama breathwork, and disability and trans studies, the work seeks to question: Whose bodies are allowed to use public spaces for their bodily needs? The importance of having witness to personal transformation The role of varied responses from public: apathy, repulsion, enthusiasm, curiosity The result of the performances will be a 6 minute video documenting movement and interactions with the public in Santa Clarita, as well as a performance score for viewers.
