DESCRIPTION :
This mixed media painting of camouflaged owls uses mostly neutral colors, while cohesive rainbow-colored light bleeds into the image. By visually merging patterned fabric atop the ground’s woodgrain, I create a sense of confusion that mirrored my ambivalence of accepting my queer identity after being closeted with internalized homophobia. The rainbow-colors represent the feelings of confinement I experienced while protecting myself amid a religious household.
