DESCRIPTION :
Sqworm: /skwərm/ A hand-built instrument made of ceramic, typically curved, with finger holes and a cup-shaped mouthpiece. It produces sound by blowing air through slightly separated lips into the mouthpiece creating a “buzz”, similar to a trumpet. Floot: /flo͞ot/ a wind instrument made from a hand-built ceramic tube with holes along it that are stopped by the fingers, held horizontally so that the player’s breath strikes a narrow edge. Ceramiphone: /səˈraməˌfōn/ A ceramic wind instrument with 6 tone holes played with a single-reed mouthpiece. Three buzzed ceramic instruments, creating a diminished triad, act as a drone for a green sqworm. As the drones fade out, the light texture of a floot emerges. A ceramiphone joins the floot in soft woodwind textures, creating a completely different soundscape from the first half of the piece. As the texture gets more and more dense, the sqworms join in once again to create a beautiful rich bed of ceramic sounds.
